Howdy! I have rebooted MicroCurator due to our time of Social Distancing that has shut down many institutions and businesses. I plan to curate information that I learn about local businesses that are open to help you find what you need. Below is information about the initial purpose of this site which was launched in 2016.
I’m Jake Friedman, a new Minnesotan by way of Texas, Iowa, and New Jersey. My wife and I got married in 2007 and settled in New Jersey for many years. In the Spring of 2018, we got the opportunity to move closer to our families and are now living in the bold North—Minnesota.
As new homeowners, we struggled to find quality, reliable services. Using traditional business review websites proved to be unhelpful as their algorithms for highlighting businesses rely on quantity over quality and are often misleading.
In hiring people to do work around the house, we learned many lessons the hard way. Sometimes the least expensive contractors were the best, while other times the most expensive or modestly priced businesses did not provide good service.
We wanted to share our experiences with friends who might also be in the market for contractors, but we weren’t quite sure how. Although social media is a good way to interact with your community, share insight with your neighbors, and solicit friends’ opinions, it’s not very practical as a means to compile and manage an ever-growing list of Q and A.
Hence, MicroCurator was born — a “crowdsourced” website where your community showcases local businesses. Finally, a website independent of confusing algorithms that relies on unbiased experience of the people near you. Browse by category to find suggested businesses and read honest commentary from its customers; your neighbors!
